Learning to Serve

“A king cannot serve his people if he does not first know what it is like to be helpless. He cannot help those in servitude if he first does not know what it is like to be forced to obey. He cannot wield his power wisely if he does not first know what it is like to have power wielded upon him. If a prince never experiences these things, he will not be a good king.”

These words, spoken from guard to prince in the dark of the night, mark the changing point in Jared si’Hyden’s life. His exile in the sheltered halls of the All-God's temple has come to an end. With the death of his elder brother he suddenly finds himself prince heir, a title he is ill prepared to live up to. He unexpectedly finds guidance in the form of nine men who offer to help him . . . for a price.
